A hedge contract is a security agreement that investors can use as insurance against any sudden, adverse market price changes. Forward Contracts

Forward contracts are considered to be hedging tools. They aim to mitigate the risks for both parties involved in the contract. If one party owns a significant amount of oil and has concerns about price fluctuations, they are able to buy a forward contract to ensure that the shipment of oil arrives at a fixed price, regardless of the market value.
Futures Contract
A futures contract is a financial agreement between two parties. It states that a commodity has to be bought or sold at a set price at a predetermined time in the future. The buyer assumes a long position, while the seller takes a short position. A transaction under a futures contract reduces the risk of financial loss by locking in the price before the transaction.
Futures contracts are standardized. This means that they can be traded on exchange platforms. The contract determines the quantity and quality of the commodity in question. Commodities such as agriculture, crude oil, and metals are traded using futures exchanges.
